VietTESOL International Convention 2021 is officially back from October 22 - 24, 2021 at Vinh University.

This has been a challenging time for both teachers and students due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With the theme “Rethinking English Language Education in the COVID Era”, VIC 2021 is believed to have the open and friendly interaction amongst the inspirational educators about teaching and learning English during the pandemic period.

VIC 2021 invites the submission of oral or poster presentations and workshops in three categories:

- Technology in Language Teaching and Learning;

- Teaching Methods and Applied Linguistics

- English language teachers’ Professional Development

The VietTESOL Association invites Vietnamese teachers of English to apply for a sponsored ticket to attend the Virtual International TESOL 2021 Convention to be held on April 24-27, 2021. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam’s Regional English Language Office, up to 70 scholarships will be awarded to new members of the VietTESOL Association and up to 30 scholarships will be awarded to current members on a first come, first served basis. Each scholarship includes free registration for the virtual convention and a one-year Global TESOL Membership. On December 10th, 2020, in Hanoi, Vietnam, Regional English Language Office, U.S. Embassy Hanoi in collaboration with National Foreign Languages Project, Ministry of Education and Training, VietTESOL Association, and University of Languages and International Studies, VNU Hanoi organized the Symposium on 25 years of U.S – Vietnam Cooperation in English language teaching.

Making a speech at the opening ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Mr. Nguyen Huu Do said that since Vietnam and the United States announced the normalization and establishment of diplomatic relations in July, 1995, the two countries have become comprehensive partners in all fields, with the prospect of expanding cooperation in the upcoming time. In the field of education, over the past 25 years, Vietnam - the United States have conducted many bilateral cooperation activities and achieved encouraging results.

The Deputy Minister emphasized: “We deeply appreciate and thank the support of the American government, affiliates, and experts who have worked tirelessly, together with Vietnam to promote, develop and enhance our quality of education, especially the quality of English language teaching in Vietnam”.

After that, in his speech, the US Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy Hanoi, Christopher Klein spoke that the assistance of improving English teaching competence in Vietnam has been an important goal of the U.S Mission in Vietnam. The U.S Government-sponsored English programs have strongly promoted the relationship between the two nations, establishing the foundation for the friendship and the comprehensive partnership of the two countries.

With the close collaboration in the implementation of the Foreign Language Teaching and Learning Project in the national education system in various programs, the U.S Mission expects to support Vietnam to improve the capacity of English teachers, develop the foreign language abilities for Vietnamese pupils, students and community.

In response to the U.S Embassy's support over the past 10 years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Huu, the Director of the National Foreign Languages Project, Ministry of Education and Training expressed her thanking and expectation to get the U.S Embassy's attention and support, especially in building an open learning materials system for English language teaching in Vietnam.

After the opening ceremony, the alumni and experts who directly participated in bilateral education and training projects between Vietnam and the United States presented, discussed and shared about the collaboration in the development of English teaching in Vietnam in the past 25 years, and at the same time made recommendations to strengthen the partnership in the coming time.

VietTESOL International Convention 2020 (VIC 2020) is a collaboration between VietTESOL Association, the National Foreign Language Project and University of Foreign Language Studies – The University of Da Nang (UFLS-UDN), Viet Nam. It was virtually held on October 16th, 2020.

Exploiting Internet-Based Materials in Teaching English

Good learning materials are keys to success in language classroom. This webinar reviews some
principles of evaluating internet resources on five common criteria including authority,
objectivity, accuracy, currency and usability. Besides, the webinar helps English teachers to
prepare learning materials more effectively by introducing simple free online tools like ED Toefl
iBT, Rubistar for Teachers, YouGlish, Lyrics Training, Rewordify, Wordle, Tubequizard etc.
and several resourceful TESOL websites through hands-on activities. The webinar is useful for
K-12 teachers who are trying to enrich their language classes with interactive, engaging and fun
internet-based learning activities.
Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Ph.D. is the dean of Faculty of Foreign Languages, Hoa Sen University and
chairman of STESOL, Association of Vietnam Universities and Colleges. Dr. Vu has 12 years of
experience building and researching ICT integration into project based teaching and English
language teaching in Vietnam. He is also leading an e-learning team to produce digital contents
at Education Quality Training Support Center of Vietnam Association of Universities and

Do Nguyen Dang Khoa is a lecturer at the National College of Education, and the vice academic
manager at IELTS Vietop. He has also been a frequent presenter at TESOL conferences in the
Indochina regions, including VietTESOL (2018), CamTESOL (2019) and LaoTESOL (2020).
He has just received Hornby Scholarship, which covers his upcoming MA study at Warwick
University in 2021. His thematic areas of interest include Computer-assisted Language Learning
(CALL), academic writing, professional development, IELTS, material development and
curriculum development.

Nguyen Thi Dung is currently working as an English teacher at Hanoi Thang Long secondary
school, Hanoi, Vietnam. She already published a book about English in the workplace last year.
She is now working on some personal research.  She is interested in Teacher Education, Early
