This formative assessment course is designed to be an interactive virtual classroom experience for teachers. The course will be run asynchronously using Canvas and Zoom as the platforms. The six-week course is designed to engage teachers who have both limited and high levels of education on formative assessment. Participants will involve participant presentations showcasing how they may utilize formative assessment through lesson plans. Each class will be structured to incorporate formative assessments to help build understanding on how they may be used. Teachers who attend and participate in each class will receive a certificate of completion.

This is the first webinar titled “How to make online lessons more interactive” in a series of three webinars on Applying Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in teaching English language online hosted by VietTESOL Association and  sponsored by RELO.

About speakers:

Ngoc D. Nguyen is an English lecturer, Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, Skype Master Teacher and Flipgrid Ambassador. She teaches English to non-English majors at Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Hanoi, Vietnam. She received a B.A. in English for Science and Technology from Hanoi University of Science and Technology and an M.A. in TESOL from Northumbria University, the UK. She has presented at different national and international conferences and had some articles published in the field of ICT in ELT. She is passionate about technology in education, learner autonomy, cultural competence and student engagement. 

Hien Ho is an M.A. of TESOL; a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert. She won the first prize in the teaching innovation contest at IUH in 2018 and had a great chance to be a presenter at the STEMCON 2019. She is a major lecturer of ICT in language teaching courses and other communicative skills at the faculty of Foreign Languages - Industrial University of Hochiminh city. She has great passion in seeking and applying ICT in teaching English to make her lessons more and more interactive and effective. One of her favorite quotes is: "Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of a great teacher can be transformational"-George Couros.

Learning online may leave the students the feeling of isolated and unmotivated, which asks teachers to have more interactive activities in order to foster a sense of learning motivation among students. Ms. Ngoc Nguyen and Ms. Hien Ho, in this session, will share their expertise and experience of creating more effectively interactive lessons to help teachers increase student engagement as well as maximize student learning.

In this webinar, participants will be shown ways to deliver engaging synchronous online English lessons using different user - friendly Edtech platforms. Moreover, some advice on what teachers need to start teaching English online and a comparison of video conferencing platforms will be given with the audience members participating in interactive activities designed by those tools throughout the webinar.
